Trellising

9th April

Spent the afternoon ramming in an extra post between the fence posts at the northern, top end of the field which will eventually become the straining posts.

10th April

Run out a line along the bottom of the field marked out for the straining posts for that end.

Then run a north south line marked up with positions of trellis poles and vines.

The trellis will not be needed for a year or so, but decided to fit posts now to take advantage of soft ground, and not wanting to disturb vines later in their development.

Photo shows the first two runs with canes marking the positions of where the vines will go. 23 runs to go.

11th to 14th April

Carried on setting out grid with Hayley on the other end of the post rammer at about 6 runs per day, for anyone into going to the gym this is a great abs and arms work out, boy do I ache!

15th April

Ably assisted by Pete Restall, spent the day installing the straining wires at each end of the runs.

A horizontal pole strained by a 45 degree wire twisted with a metal bar to take up the tension.
