Planting

27th April - Vines arrived.

We planted 10 vines at a time mostly with me digging the holes and Hayley planting, till her knees gave out on the last 50.

We would put a day’s worth of vines in a bucket half full of water to keep the roots moist while we planted.

After 10 holes were dug we would lay out the original bit of blue rope marked out with cable ties we used for trellising to get the vines in the right place.

With two of us each vine took about 4 minutes to plant x 500 = 33hours 20 minutes. In reality we were averaging about 70 per day with breaks, planting is extremely tiring. Special thanks to Pete Restall who gave up his Bank Holiday to plant (We did 100 that day).

Our First Failure – After a couple of weeks the rubber bands have started to perish, so have ordered cable ties from http://www.thesitebox.com
