Henry's Page

We found Henry, our 20 year old thoroughbred, dead in the field that will be our vineyard, at the end of July 2009.

He was a useless racehorse (raced as ‘Henry’s First’), racing just twice and coming last both times. When he was six years old he had a horrific accident when his leg got trapped in a stable door that skinned it to the bone, he recovered but it left him lame for a year or two and he could never be ridden again.

Henry never did get on particularly well with other horses, not sure if it was the embarrassment of a failed racing career or if he was just simply a snob, but over the years he became the boss.

As any horse lover will tell you, your horses become like your kids, you forgive them their shortcomings, you always find something to love about them, but never truly understand them.

And we do miss him!
